2009 Wimbledon Village Fair

2009 Wimbledon Village Fair

On the 20th June 2009 Paul volunteered his services to help the local charity The Wimbledon Guild who organise and run The Wimbledon village fair held on Wimbledon Common the week before the tennis every year, where we erected scaffolding to form a stage in the middle of the common for New Wimbledon Theatre to perform High School Musical, we also erected the main entrance for the fair and the entrance to the event and the dog show. It was a fun day for all and there were large crowds all day, even during the rain during midday! We had our own stall located next to AFC Wimbledon and the funfair where we collected money for Children in Need and generally had a great time meeting and greeting the community as they came and went during the day.

Soon after on the 27th of June 2009 Paul Strank Roofing Ltd saw the culmination of all their hard work towards Children in Need during a fun day we ran out of our offices here in Wimbledon attended by numerous people we met up on the common on the 20th.

2009 Charity Day

2009 Charity Day

Paul Strank Roofing organised a family fun day held at our Head Office for everyone to attend and help raise as much money as possible for BBC Children in Need. We started to prepare for the event the night of 26th of June with many volunteers staying on site till well after midnight to prepare signs, banners and stalls ready for the big day held on the 27th June 2009. We had Radio Jackie road show crew setup outside the offices here given us “the sound of SW London” all day from 10am till 4pm , we had cast members from the Bill walking around and signing autographs all day until Nasty Nick (John Altman) turned up and they throw the cuffs on him. John Altman (Nasty Nick) bail was then auctioned to get him released. The BBC who kindly lent us their Pudsey Costume, Luke Worral was in attendance for nearly whole day having photos with the public, organising things for things to go into the raffle and generally a pleasure to have at the event

We had The Fore Playing live music and everyone a had little dance to. We had the best BBQ and hog roast around supplied by The Hideaway, Attics sponsored the bar where cold drinks and beer, wine and champagne could be bought. That alone keep the adults amused but we couldn’t forget the kids as that’s what the whole of the day was about, so we had a bouncy castle inflated on the grass outside the office which was kindly paid for by one of our neighbours down here on weir road Colourwash Bathrooms, small area where the go-carts where whizzing around which where kindly donated by (Rob Laughton), rodeo bull, face painting, fire brigade, just to name a few.

We had the new and never seen before 2009/10 AFC Wimbledon Squad kindly come down after there 1st training session this season and sign anything you lot was asking to be signed. AFC Wimbledon also had a stall selling there merchandise and a penalty shoot out for us to try our shooting skills, all the proceeds taken by AFC Wimbledon were donated to the Children in Need Charity.

We held and live auction which included 2 signed Cricket Bats by the Surrey Squad, The Bill Goodies, Sign Eastender script (John Altman), Champagne, Sign AFC Shirt, Framed And signed AFC Programme, Day At Radio Jackie, Meals At Nados , Toys , Wish lanterns and more.

Like to say A Big Thank You to everyone that helped out and supported the day and raise loads of money for children in need, the total raised was Just under £3k.

AFC Wimbledon Day

AFC Wimbledon Day

Paul Strank roofing set out in force on 26th September 2009 and head down AFC Wimbledon VS Histon at Kingsmeadow to sell as many raffle tickets as possible to win a Meal for 2, kindly donated by Lydons restaurant in Wimbledon Village with any single player from the squad. Before the match we all were getting stuck in with the crowd in out and of the bars and running around the front selling loads of tickets. And when half time come around and we was winning 1-0 thanks to a well placed goal early on by Luke More everyone at the ground where in good spirit and stared digging deep into their pocket buying strips of tickets. By the end of the match thanks to further goals by Lewis Taylor, Steven Gregory and Danny Kedwell winning 4-0 I might add, the pots were filling up and the tickets selling fast, right up until the draw was taken.

The lucky winner was Mick from Guildford, who decided against taking one of the squad for the meal (much to their disappointment were sure) and instead invited his lovely wife instead. We would like to offer a big thank you from us and Children in need to AFC Wimbledon for letting us come along to the game and to everyone who bought raffle tickets, as well as a special thank you to the two teams for putting on such a good show and helping to bring out everyone generous side, we raised a colossal £340.00 on the day and every penny will be heading straight to Children in need. THANK YOU!

2010 Charity Day Piazza Promotion

2010 Charity Day Piazza Promotion

On Saturday the 22nd of May Paul Strank Roofing volunteers accompanied by both Radio Jackie and Nandos visited the Piazza in Wimbledon under brilliant skies to promote the 2010 funday. This was an excellent opportunity for us to show the good people of Merton what was in store for them at the event, equipped with our picture board full with images from last year’s funday, collection buckets and free donuts (thanks to Krispy Kreme’s) we set out in view of spreading the word of Southpark gardens largest charity event this year.

We spent the majority of the day under clear skies talking with passersby about the upcoming funday, with Aaron Norton proudly entertaining us all and Barci the Nandos chicken with Nandos staff handing out vouchers shoulder to shoulder with Pudsey bear and Haydon the Womble as they danced to radio Jackie’s tune

The day was great fun for all involved and we thank everyone who stopped to have a chat and gave their support to Children in Need. Pictures are in the gallery above, just look at that Sky!

2010 Charity Fun Day

2010 Charity Fun Day

Paul Strank Roofing Ltd in association with AFC Wimbledon has pulled off another successful charity fun day this year at South Park Gardens, Wimbledon on the 3rd of July. The event was opened at 11:00am by the mayor of Merton and boasted a large range of attractions with bouncy castles and funfair rides to stalls, a food village and everything in-between. Hard pressed to best last year’s total and concerned about our chances of doing so during a recession we were pleasantly surprised to find Merton had pulled out all the stops to support this year’s Children in Need campaign smashing last year’s total.

Blessed by good weather the day started with a bang as the mayor of Merton cut the ribbon opening the event, with sunny skies and crowds gathering our stage was brought to life by bands such as Groove Manoova, The Glamsters and Aaron Norton as well as performances by local groups such as the holistic fitness martial arts class, all accompanied by the more then capable radio Jackie road-show providing the sound system and live broadcasts throughout the day.

During the event we were joined by many well known faces, non so much as Eastenders star Scott Maslin, Glamour Model and T.V Personality Bianca Gascoigne and the well loved Big Brother 2008 winner Brian Belo who all helped out by signing autographs, having photos taken and mingling with the crowd at the funday, not to mention the various MP’s there to show their support on the day and of course the telltale appearance during lunch time of Pudsey the Bear and Haydon the Womble showing us even well loved creatures such as they enjoy a spot of sport when they competed at the tug of war drawing with an even 1 all score!

During the event we had thousands of people coming and going and keeping them entertained was a large target for us, a funday would be a funday without the fun after all and with support and interest in the event coming from many directions, we eventually decided on the activities most of you would have seen on the day, with a funfair for the kids, activities run on the southern side of the park by various companies and organisations to keep the adults having a laugh and even a coconut shy springing up on the day to test your aim. The event sported an array of stalls and activities dotted all over the park for visitors, including stalls run by local schools and businesses offering games and merchandise including a tombola, raffle and other interesting challenges for passersby to enjoy and all going out of their way to help us to raise money for Children in Need.

Dance Aid an organisation only recently given its charity status and a close friend of ours here at Paul Strank Roofing Ltd also turned up on the day to support Children in Need, setting up their gazebo towards the east of the stage they caught a lot of public attention letting visitors try out their mixing skills with their top of the range teaching software, showing us all how they teach mathematics and social skills in the academies they run all over the country. While over to the west of South Park Gardens AFC Wimbledon our associates in running the funday again proved just how close one man can get to his favourite club providing Paul with invaluable assistance in organisation and planning for the day, unveiling their new kit and offering up signed memorabilia for the auction they really worked hard to make the day what it was.

With all the attention the event received we were very glad of our food village on the northern part of south park gardens serving everything from hog roasts and Chinese cuisine to pastas and salads as well as some of the best Italian ice cream we have ever tasted which helped to keep us all on our feet right up to closing time at 4:00pm.

With all the help we received it really isn’t that much of a surprise how well the fun day did with active support and advice given by Barclays, Tesco’s, Radio Jackie, AFC Wimbledon, Sylvester’s Renovations, Krispy Kreme’s and Autographstore.com to name only a small part of our events supporters the whole day was a wonderful event and we would like to thank everyone involved in making the day such a success. From everyone at Paul Strank Roofing Ltd thank you. we are proud to be part of such a supportive and actively charitable borough

2010 Shooting Star Chase (Christmas)

2010 Shooting Star Chase (Christmas)

Last year we took part in many charity events and none warmed our hearts more than our visit in festive costumes to the Shooting Star CHASE Christopher’s Hospice donning elf hats and jingling boots Paul Strank Roofing Staff alongside a merry Paul in his Santa get-up visited the life limited children and were received with open arms and grinning faces by both parents and children alike.

The day saw Paul & Staff in costume alongside Film Star Tamer Hassan and EastEnders favourite John Partridge delivering the gifts gathered by our toy appeal last year to the children, there was music and DJ’ing lessons given by our friends from Danceaid overseen by the projects creators Wayne Eldridge and Mete Alpsakarya who were also elves for the day.

The Shooting Star CHASE Christopher’s Hospice supports families with children who aren’t expected to reach their 19th birthday; they provide these opportunities for the children to enjoy a fun time and help to create a lasting, happy memory, and we believe very strongly that these appeals they make for toys, and events like the one we ran for them are imperative to the proper care and attention these children require. It is a valuable aspect of CHASE support and gives both the children and the family something to look forward to.

Some of you may remember that last year we were most active in pursuing a Toy Drive for Shooting Star CHASE, desperately seeking any and all donations for what we promised would be a day to remember for the children and we couldn’t have been more right! Thanks to the astounding response to the toy drive we were able to deliver each and every child something that they wrote to Santa for in their lists earlier in the year and as you can see from the gallery on the left hand side it was greatly appreciated by both parents and children alike!

From everyone at Paul Strank Roofing we offer our most sincere thanks to all the people who helped make this event possible, we cannot convey over any kind of media what this day meant to these children or to us for being there.
