The first ever Wimbledon Sports Week took place from 26–30 October 2009 as part of the Wimbledon Going for Gold campaign, and we had the pleasure of putting up the enclosure for the event at Wimbledon train stations main forecourt. The community activities available include football, tennis, rugby and cricket as well as promotional activity around health and sport. The business challenge invited local businesses to put forward teams for 5 a-side football, tennis and golf games, and naturally a few of our boys put down their names for 5-aside football alongside other teams from AFC Wimbledon Supporters, The All England Club, Goals, David Lloyd Leisure, GLL and Merton and Sutton Primary Care Trust, we played three games and although we lost 2 of them and unfortunately didn’t make it through to the finals, we had a blast participating. The 5-aside tournament was however won skilfully by the AFC Supporters team, to whom we gave our congratulations. On the final night of sports week there was a ceremony held to award prize’s won by the winning teams from each of the different sports tournaments.
